"My son is now 11 years old and is in the 5th grade. When he was 8 years old we had him tested and he was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD. He continued struggling in the public school during 3rd and 4th grade and the school could not address his learning needs. He was struggling with all of his subjects and had decided he was a failure and never wanted to go to school again. It was a painful and frustrating experience to watch your bright, eager to learn, little boy lose hope in the 4th grade. He has been at Horizon now for seven months, and in the short time he has been there, he has been inspired to learn. When he started Horizon Academy he was reading at a 2.9 grade level and he is now reading at a 5.8 grade level and he can't get enough of reading. He had not liked reading before and now he has read 100 books since August, and in his words, 'I am looking forward to being a book-worm.' He has acheived the Super Reader Award, and is working towards the Star Reader Award. His math has been just as exciting. When he first started he was at a 3.6 grade level and now he is at a 7.9 grade level. He has improved in his writing and his ability to write reports, also. He would only write 3 lines for a paper before and his last report had 6 paragraphs.
