Horizon Academy is the result of the efforts of dedicated parents concerned  about the progress of their children in traditional schools. Combining the advice received from national educational consultants, research from Midwest Research Institute, and input from local parents, educators and physicians, a vision and master plan for Horizon Academy emerged.

In September of 1999, Horizon Academy first opened its doors to 12 students. Specializing in helping children with learning disabilities, Horizon Academy is a unique educational institution designed to provide an environment where children can experience academic success. Through innovative  instructional programs and the individual attention of highly qualified staff,  Horizon Academy provides the only program of its kind in the Kansas City Area.

Today Horizon Academy services the needs of up to 81 students per year who are working to gain the academic, social, and self-esteem skills necessary to reach their highest potential. 145 students have successfully transitioned back to their traditional school setting with many achieving honor roll status.
