Horizon Academy students have average or above average intelligence, but struggle with:
 

• Word decoding skills in reading

• Oral and written language comprehension

• Oral and written expression

• Math skills, time and sequencing

• Handwriting ability

• Physical education skills

• Organizational skills

• Social skills
   

Horizon Academy offers the following to help students overcome those struggles:
 

• Student to staff ratio is no more than 6 to 1
   

• Hours are from 8:30 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. Monday-Friday
   

• Instruction is individualized and prescriptive
   

• Students take a multi-sensory approach to learning
   

• Instruction is provided in learning and compensation strategies
   

• Students receive social skills training
   

• Occupational therapy and speech and language therapy are available
   

• A variety of summer programs consisting of academics and recreation are offered to students
   
• Physical education, art, music, and technology classes
  
  Counseling services are available
